Privacy Policy

The short version: this site asks you for nothing, measures nothing and follows no one. Below is the long version — what data is processed, by whom and why.

01Who is responsible

This site and the Winotch app are a personal, open source project maintained by Samuel Casella, who acts as the data controller for the (very little) data described on this page.

02What the site collects

Nothing you have to hand over: there are no contact forms, sign-ups, newsletters or private areas. You can read every page and play with the island simulator without leaving any information behind.

Like any website, the infrastructure hosting it automatically records some technical data with each request:

the IP address the request comes from
date, time and the page requested
browser, operating system and preferred language
server errors, if any

These logs exist only to keep the site running and secure: diagnosing failures and preventing abuse. The legal basis is the legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in delivering a stable service. They are never used to profile you, nor cross-referenced with anything else.

03What the site does not do

no analytics or statistics service, neither Google Analytics nor any alternative
no profiling cookies and no advertising pixels
no sharing or selling of data to third parties
no fonts or scripts loaded from external servers: the typefaces are hosted alongside the site, so your browser never contacts Google Fonts
no accounts, no newsletter, no marketing messages

04Third-party services

The site relies on a handful of external services, each with its own privacy notice:

Vercel — hosts the site and processes the technical logs described above as a data processor.
GitHub — hosts the source code and the installer. The download link is resolved by our server, so your browser only contacts GitHub when you actually download the app or open a link to the repository.
Ko-fi — handles voluntary contributions. If you decide to buy me a coffee, the payment data is processed by Ko-fi and its payment provider: I only receive the amount and any public message, never your card details.

These providers may process data outside the European Union; where they do, the transfer is covered by the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

05The Winotch app

Winotch is a desktop app that runs entirely on your computer. What the island shows — the track you are playing, volume, calendar and Windows notifications — is read from the operating system and stays local: none of it is sent to me or to any third-party server.

The app requires no account, contains no advertising and collects no usage statistics. The source code is public on GitHub, so anyone can verify what is written here.

If a future version ever introduces network features, such as an automatic update check, this page will be updated before that release ships.

06How long data is kept

Hosting logs are kept for as long as security and diagnostics require — typically a few days, and in any case no longer than twelve months — after which they are deleted or anonymised automatically. No other personal data is stored.

07Your rights

You can exercise the rights granted by Articles 15-22 GDPR at any time: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection to processing based on legitimate interest.

Write to samuelcasella06@gmail.com and you will get an answer within a month. Bear in mind that, since no identifying data is collected, a request usually cannot be matched to a specific visit: you may be asked for the date and IP address.

If you believe the processing breaks the law you can lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority (garanteprivacy.it) or with the supervisory authority of your own country.

08Children

The site is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect their data. With no forms and no sign-ups, no identifying data is requested from anyone, at any age.

09Changes to this notice

If the site or the app ever change the way they handle data, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change with it. Significant changes will also be noted in the release notes on GitHub.
